Mac OS X Utilities
Before making a decision on a good disk utility, do your homework. If you are using Mac OS 9, then it will be a matter of legacy upgrades. OSX lends itself to Disk Warrior or Tech Tool, and optimization is built into the OS. Below are listed some of the more popular utilities for the Mac.
For more information on any of these products, click on the links after the description. The "Manufacturer" link goes to the manufacturer's website and the "Review" link will take you to a review of that product.
Symantec's Norton Utilities - A great utility for the Mac OS with the exception of the migration of OSX 10.2 to 10.3. Disk Doctor does not work at all and most likely would fatal if you could get it to work. (about $99.95) - Manufacturer - Review
Alsoft's Disk Warrior - Disk Warrior is an excellent tool and may be the standard as Alsoft has kept up with Mac OS. Mac OS X constantly monitors, repairs and optimizes at night while we're asleep, but it is still necessary to use a disk utility to operate at peak performance. (about $79.95) - Manufacturer - Review
Micromat's Tech Tool Pro - Another highly-rated system utility for the Mac OS. Apple includes a version of Tech Tool with their AppleCare Protection Plan. (about $97.97) - Manufacturer - Review
