Maintaining Your Mac - a few simple maintenance ideas to keep your Mac at optimal performance
Software - There are several software utilities that can be purchased or that are bundled with your computer. The 2 that really shine are MicroMat's Techtools Pro and Drive 10 or Symantec's Norton Utilities. These are by far the best maintenance tools on the market today and for the cost of $70 -$90 is a reliable, inexpensive solution to keep your Macintosh running at peak performance.
Optimization and Defragmenting - All computers use free disk space to operate. Installers and file storage also uses the same space randomly. To prevent reducing the speed and reliability of your computer defragmenting is crucial and should be mandatory.
Digital filing and Desktop - It always seems either by convenience or work habit operators want to file their work on their desktop. Set up a logical filing system on a hard drive or in a server environment, which is backed up on a regular basis. This will help to eliminate desktop corruption, crashes, and loss of data. Rebuilding your desktop on a weekly basis will also help. If you have never rebuilt your desktop, simply restart and press the option and command keys simultaneously until a message appears and click OK.
Remember, not taking the extra time to do simple proper maintenance, you risk a hard crash with guaranteed loss of data and many hours to recover.
