THEME: Packaging Connected

EskoWorld 2018 welcomed over 500 customers, with nearly 40% of them being new attendees. Chris Miller, VP NA & APAC, announced the theme for this year’s event as “Packaging Connected”… and the content proved to do just that, connect – connecting Esko solutions to each other, to the brands, to the converters and ultimately further strengthening the ability to connect with the consumer.

Evolving Consumer Behavior

Undo Panenka, President, highlighted the fact that the consumer behavior continues to change. In order to stay relevant, large and small brands are having to change with the times. Consumers continue to move towards a more digital lifestyle. While the security and orientation brands offer are certainly important, brands are realizing that when people buy online they buy first on price then availability then convenience. They expect the products they see online to be the same as what they see in the store. More and more they are looking for products that create an engaging experience and offer access to more and better information. As digital natives, smaller CPGs have adopted these evolving expectations with much more ease and speed. Many larger CPGs, watching their growth stagnate, are a little behind and are now working tirelessly to incorporate more digitization and appeal to the new consumer. Every brand is looking to create that WOW factor to bring their products to the forefront.

Converter/Supplier Challenges

On the converter/supplier side the struggles to manage shorter runs, more SKUs, and eliminate inefficient manual processes continues. Home grown MIS systems are having to be overhauled or replaced. More and more converters are adopting a mixed house of print processes that include digital, offset and flexo. There is a strong need to digitize for routine tasks and shorten lead times and make assests more portable to multiple devices for sampling and approvals.

Esko remains driven, offering solutions on both fronts, for brands and converters.
