If you haven't already heard, X-rite has launched it's new i1Pro 3 series spectrophotometers. These are an upgrade to the i1Pro 2 series spectrophotometers. Two key enhancements include:

  1. Full-Spectrum LED Light Source that offers improved reliability vs. traditional tungsten bulbs in former models.
  2. Improved Sampling Rate (Hz) which means higher scanning measurement speeds and use for smaller patches and/or more data points per patch. All this results in higher profile accuracy and faster measurements!

i1Pro 3 Plus - Released July 2019

  • i1Pro 3 Plus is ideal for processes that require a larger sample size and aperture to improve color measurement accuracies, such as display, signage, corrugated, textiles, and plastic. Often these processes include low-res (lpi) printing, which requires larger sample sizes.
  • i1iO Scanning Table (Gen 3) is compatible with both the i1Pro 3 and i1Pro 3 Plus. It is not compatible with earlier i1Pro spectro models. As with the former table, it accomodates a large variety of substrates to include thin films, labels, cardboard, textiles, and plastics.
  • NEW Z-axis spacer is compatible with both the i1iO Gen 2 and Gen 3 model tables. It supports materials up to 33mm thick, such as corrugated board and tiles.

i1Pro 3 - Released January 2020

  • i1Pro 3 is perfect for prepress, but can also be used in pressrooms and ink rooms as can the i1Pro 2. Two key advantages with the new i1Pro 3 include faster scanning and the full-spectrum LED light source.

Should I upgrade my i1Pro 2 to an i1Pro 3?

There is probably no need to rush to upgrade, especially if you are currently satisfied with your i1Pro 2 capabilities, if your device is relatively new or in good condition, if you have maintained its manufacturer's calibration status, and/or if you are not measuring test forms or targets on a regular basis. If unsure, talk with your X-Rite dealer or software support partner. If you are frequently measuring print samples and test forms and your software is compatible, there are certainly benefits that make the i1Pro 3 series a good value. i1Pro Options

X-Rite Software solutions for the i1Pro 3 and i1iO Table (Gen 3) include the i1Photo and i1Publish solutions (also available to older model i1Pro devices). To creating press profiles for Flexo, Offset, Gravure, Proofers, etc., i1Publish is needed in combination with an i1iO table and i1Pro spectro; however, the i1 table and spectro combo can also be used with other profiling software from other suppliers. Check for compatibility.

Caution: Before upgrading, it is important to confirm your software is compatible with the i1Pro 3 or i1Pro 3 Plus.
