Color MatchingAs much as we believe in and preach the merits of process control and quantification within our industry, it’s great to occasionally receive feedback that validates the “pleasure being worth the pain.” This happened to occur again recently in conversations with a customer who has implemented the Perfect Proofer Ink Proofing System into its operations. Our customer revealed that, after two months of incorporating Perfect Proofer in validating the color specification of formulated inks prior to going to press, the facility has demonstrated a “30% increase in first pass yield” (in other words, color approval on the first press pull.) Additionally, in a direct comparison of Perfect Proofer to a competitive ink proofing technology, a trial of 24 different “wet sample” colors in reference to the defined Pantone L*a*b* standard revealed an average delta error of 1.11 ΔE when proofed with the Perfect Proofer, compared to an average error of 2.34 ΔE with the competitive device. This little testimonial provides meaningful data that can certainly simplify an ROI decision and represents an important step in the targeting of variables than can provide an immediate impact on improving overall process efficiencies. Yes, we can all “talk the talk” when it comes to process control, but real life feedback like this validates the “walking the walk” part of it.
