Device-independent color engine

Kaleidoscope is a superior tool for absolute color accuracy. It maximizes color consistency, predictability & repeatability in every stage of pre-production. Kaleidoscope is an integrated color system that excels in color management of special colors such as PANTONE and house/designer colors. Kaleidoscope's color management combines CMYK (colorimetric) profiles with patented special color (spectral) profiles. Special colors are individually profiled and stored in a database, resulting in excellent special color matching for digital proofing. Kaleidoscope is also the ideal solution for extended color gamut printing.

Kaleidoscope dramatically reduces cost in adopting digital printing:

  • Waste reduction
  • Reduced press setup
  • Reduced prepress time to prepare jobs for digital

Unique profiling tools for CMYK, Multi-Color and spot colors

  • To profile CMYK presses and proofing devices, ESKO supports industry standards like ECI2002 and custom-made, high definition charts.
  • Kaleidoscope CMYK profiles are 4-D. Kaleidoscope 4-D profiles can be LAB based or spectral and ensure increased accuracy on CMYK and spot color reproduction. Advantages of 4-D profiles include that the black channel can be treated separately.
  • For spot colors, Kaleidoscope support standard spot color libraries like PANTONE® Goe.
  • Spot can also be profiled in Kaleidoscope using a unique feature called InkProfiling ™.
  • Kaleidoscope also features Multi-Color profiles used in Equinox and Digital Print workflows and unique when used for separation.

InkProfiling™ is an ESKO patented technology that allows users to profile printing inks with all its characteristics like solid density, opacity, tone values, minimum dot, etc.

All these characteristics are stored as spectral values in a central database that all ESKO workflow components can use the reproduce spot colors, alone or in overprint, on your monitor or on a hardcopy proof using the Kaleidoscope color engine that is built-into for example FlexProof, ViewX, PackEdge, etc.

This unique technology finally takes the guesswork out of rendering spot color overprints and captures hue shifts of spot colors undertones and make soft proofing and hardcopy proofing for packaging applications much more reliable.

Unique color engine goes beyond the boundaries of ICC specifications

  • Kaleidoscope is a 4-D color engine and uses 4-D profiles, resulting in highly accurate color transformations with special features like treating the black channel separately. All Esko applications use the Kaleidoscope color engine to ensure consistency in color reproduction.
  • Kaleidoscope supports ICC profiles, RGB, CMYK or Multi-Color.
  • All ICC, Esko and spot color profiles are stored in a central profile database so all workflow applications can use them.
  • Dynamic, database-driven calculation of special colors and CMYK overprints.
  • Device link and device link refinement technology. Kaleidoscope generates and refines device links with immediate feedback on screen.
  • Color Strategies are a unique way of bundling color management settings to ensure consistent use of color parameters in a production environment
